Hey everyone,
It’s been a while since the last Blackwell Games Newsletter. If you’re new to these parts, you probably won’t remember when I used to do a fortnightly/ monthly newsletter that included news about my latest projects as well as little bits for DELVE and Apothecaria like new Events, Quests, and stuff to find beneath the ground.
So what does the newsletter cover? Great question!
I’m going to be using this newsletter to put out a monthly update about new releases, what I’m working on, convention appearances, updates on when out of stock games come back, and as a way to share anything else I’m doing that I think is of interest.
I’ll also be using the newsletter to promote other creators in the indie TTRPG space and sharing a bit about the media I’m enjoying and the non-RPG stuff I’m doing (like did you know I’m going to be doing 10 months of intense circus training starting next month?! I’ll make sure to include my highlights!).
New Stuff!
My newest game, For Small Creatures Such As We launched in June and the first expansion Love & Lust which dives into the different forms of love and lets you start a family, is nearing release! It’s currently in playtesting and we’ve found a couple of issues that need fixing but thankfully nothing too big!
Keep an eye out for Love & Lust releasing in September.
There are some changes happening over on the Blackwell Games Patreon. Rather than having my entire back catalogue available, I’m switching to a rolling 3 month program where new Patrons get access to any game released while they’re subscribed and any games released up to 3 months before they joined. I feel like this is a fair solution and Patrons seem to agree.
We’re also approaching the £1000 per month mark which is bloody huge and will need to be celebrated somehow!
Conventions
I’ll be at Tabletop Scotland (6th - 8th sept) in Edinburgh next month! Come say hi if you’re able to make it. This is the first year that Tabletop Scotland has been hosted in Edinburgh and its apparently 4 times the size of last year’s event!
As for Dragonmeet, I’m currently trying to decide whether or not to go. I do have a table and chances are I’ll be there but I’ll let you all know my decision closer to the time.
Media Of The Week
This week I’ve been reading Unraveller by Frances Hardinge and it is such a good read. Without wishing to spoil anything, the deep worldbuilding surrounding the woods and the way curses work in this setting alone make it worth reading. Not to mention the great characters and the evocative writing throughout.
Gamey Bits
I’m feeling weirdly meta these days so the Event included in this newsletter is for Apothecaria and you’ll find it in the Village:
Queen
A stranger with a book seeks you out. They claim that the book is a magical record of your life in particular. How do they have it? What have they been doing with it? What do they want from you? Is the book accurate? If not, what does it get wrong?
Lastly, A Call To Arms
Growing a business like this is hard. It takes a lot of time to create games and even more time to promote them, sell them, and all that important but decidedly unsexy stuff. So in the interest of being open and honest about everything, I’m starting a new marketing scheme.
Each month, I’ll pick a Twitter or Instagram post that has (@BlackwellWriter) or (Blackwell_Games) tagged and has a picture or video of one of my games at random. I’ll then send that person a coupon for a PDF of one of my games and include their post in the next newsletter; I get exposure, you get the chance of getting a free game! Win-Win!
